Our Story

The name, OMOIBOX comes from a Japanese word “omou” 思. Type: verb. Meaning: to think; consider; believe; and imagine.

My wife Janice and I (Tessei) had an idea in 2012, to design and build something that would not only look beautiful, but will also bring joy and value to a lifestyle. We created origami box charms, to display as car accessories that can guard road safety. We chose the word “omou” because we started this company out of the beliefs that with creativity and inventiveness, we can create useful objects that are designed to reimagine lifestyles. We wanted to keep the word “box” 箱 because that is where we started, from a simple origami box.

I've always been a builder all of my life. For decades, I designed and created furniture for my family’s use, I loved working with my hands. My Japanese parents had always instilled a strong work ethic in me. My wife and I are perfectionists, we can say confidently that we will work to go above and beyond your expectations, to bring unique and functional custom creations to your home.

Below you will see one of our first projects for a client who wanted a jewelry box that had a minimalist design, with a locking mechanism that was hidden. The only way the jewelry box could be opened, is by using the magnetic function of the OMOIBOX, and sliding it across the front, to open the slider lock on the box.

We specialize in creating, designing, and inventing customized objects for your home with exceptional craftsmanship and dedication. We combine creative freedom, innovative design, and artisanal technique, to create collections that are designed to be durable and to reimagine a home. We are passionate about turning an idea or an inspiration into a one of a kind piece. We build objects that are not only unique, but very specific to what “you” need. Our pieces are completely handcrafted from the finest raw materials, and assembled with rigorous attention to detail. We put in a tremendous amount of labor into each piece. Each piece is truly a work of art.

Working as a team, my wife and I have grown closer, now with two kiddos, we all chip in to grow this online store from a small garage shop out of our home in Port Washington, NY. We dream that one day, OMOIBOX will have a gallery-like shop in the heart of SoHo in New York City. My entrepreneurial endeavor is only beginning. However, my wife and I are so grateful to be in this position today. Hard work has brought us closer to amazing people around the world. It’s so wonderful to hear the stories of our customers, and to create a product that helps embellish their homes “one piece at a time” has truly been an honor and a blessing.
